DERMAPEN 4 SKIN NEEDLING

Our MediPen by Dermapen World microneedling device glides over the skin, creating 1,920 fine micro-wounds per second. This treatment penetrates the skin where the blood vessels live.

With 16 surgical-grade stainless steel needles vertically piercing the skin using AOVN (Advanced Oscillating Vertical Needle) technology – it’s a non-invasive rejuvenation treatment that makes your skin work below the surface with natural stimulation.

How deep the microneedling device reaches depends on your needs and skin concerns; for diffused redness, enlarged pores, scarring, stretch marks and ageing, the blood vessel will be the target. This sends white blood cells rushing to the area, increasing blood flow, collagen, and elastin fibres that repair, rebuild and regenerate the damaged areas.

Pre-care

  • Avoid Accutane in the six months prior to beginning your treatment sessions.
  • Do not use topical agents that may increase the sensitivity of your skin such as exfoliants, topical antibiotics or acids 5-7 days prior to your treatment.
  • Do not take anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen, Motrin, or Advil for at least 3 days prior to your microneedling session
  • Avoid IPL/Laser procedures, unprotected sun exposure, or sunburn for at least 2 weeks prior to your procedure.
  • No waxing, depilatory creams, or electrolysis to the area being treated for 5-7 days prior.
  • Do not shave the day of the procedure to avoid skin irritation. If there’s dense hair present in the treatment area, shave the day before you arrive for your appointment.
  • If you’re prone to cold sores, take an antiviral agent for 2 days prior to and the day of the treatment.
  • Avoid blood thinning agents for one week prior because bruising is a common side effect of microneedling.

After-care

  • Your experienced Beauface therapist will provide post-treatment instructions and recommend home-care products so you can continue your treatment journey at home.
  • No skincare the day of treatment. ONLY cleanse, moisturise & sunscreen within first 4-7days. Avoid all other skincare products
  • Do not wet face for 12-24 hrs post treatment. Avoid steamy showers or anything heat related
  • Re introduce your usual serums and skincare after 1 week of treatment
  • Strictly no sun for 2 weeks. Wear a hat to cover full face and re apply sunscreen often if going out in the sun
  • It's normal to get some breakouts after as the skin purges, push through. It will clean
  • No makeup for 2 days post treatment. It may cause an infection and you will break out if makeup is used within 48 hours
  • No waxing or laser hair removal on the area for 2 weeks after needling
  • No gym/training/excessive sweating for 2 days after treatment, as bacteria will build up and cause breakouts

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

1 How does microneedling work?

Beauface Clinic use the dermapen 4 handheld device from DP Dermaceuticals with an adjustable needle head, the needle depth (0.50mm – 3.5mm) can be altered depending on the skin condition being treated. The needles cause a small wound to the skin’s surface, stimulating the body’s natural reaction to heal. The treated area benefits from the growth of new skin cells that in turn improve the skin’s texture and appearance.

Initial redness will occur where platelets in the blood respond to the ‘wound’. The tissue in the treated area will regenerate (heal).

A ‘fibrotic response’ occurs generating new collagen and tissue formation.

  • No numbing is required
  • Regular work activities can be resumed after treatment

2 How painful is this treatment?

Skin Needling treatments can cause some discomfort. Although numbing cream is used for many other skin needling treatments, the vibrating effect of the Skin Needling interrupts the pain receptors in the skin which makes numbing cream unnecessary. Skin Needling isn’t rolled or dragged across the skin like a dermal roller, so the microscopic punctures it makes are clean, direct and cause discomfort.

3 Is micro needling good for your skin?

Skin Needling is a natural, mechanical process which works without the use of chemicals. It helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, improve skin tone and refine pores. Acne scarring and redness will also benefit from micro-needling, and you can improve overall skin texture and quality. The process also helps the skin to better absorb skincare products for ongoing healthier skin.

4 What are the side effects?

Possible side effects can include slight swelling, temporary discomfort, minor redness, possible bruising, dryness and light flaking. But these typically subside within a few hours or within a week, depending on the individual.

5 Is Skin Needling good for acne?

Dermapen 4 skin needling can be done on active, it simply depends on how severe the acne is will determine the depth of the needle. The areas of active acne will require a lower needle depth to avoid bleeding or potentially spreading bacteria. Dermapen 4 skin needling is a great treatment for congestion as it oxygenated the skin. When there's oxygen in the skin it prevents further growth of bacteria, which are the cause of acne.

6 Is Skin Needling safe?

Skin Needling is considered safe for all skin types and requires little to no downtime post-treatment. However, it is not recommended in conjunction with some acne medications or if you have psoriasis, eczema, open wounds, active cystic acne or keloid scarring.

7 How many treatments will I need?

Everyone’s skin is different, and Skin Needling treats a range of skin concerns, so the number of micro needling treatments needed will vary from person to person. We recommend repeating your Skin Needling treatments every 3-4 weeks until you achieve your desired results. For scar reduction, an average of 3 to 6 treatments is normally recommended with 6 weeks intervals.

8 What will my skin look like straight after my treatments?

Your skin may appear flushed, with slight redness and possible mild swelling. You may also experience light flaking. The majority of the redness and swelling should subside within 24 hours, with the average healing process being 2 to 5 days.

9 How can I maximise results?

Skin needling and radio frequency (RF) are skin treatments usually performed separately to induce new collagen production. We recommend combining Skin Needling and RF skin tightening together in a single treatment to maximise their effects.

10 How long do Skin Needling results last?

Generally, you should see Skin Needling beginning to work as your skin starts to heal within 4 to 7 days after your first treatment. Within 4 to 6 weeks you are ready for your next session where the positive results will then begin to become cumulative. The collagen from a skin needling treatment can continue to be stimulated up to two years after your treatment.
